Thats Right Back on Track after a Trying White Marlin Open

Tournament fishing can be a finicky beast and the 2011 White Marlin Open was not easy on us. Had a boat issue that caused us to miss a day of fishing. We did make it out for the final 2 days of the Tournament, Had 2 good days of fishing just nothing to make it to the scales.

Capt. John Reports:

Rough week for the “Thats Right” had some boat issues on Tuesday and had to waste our second lay day, as things turned out we were only able to fish two days. We had a great time caught some Marlins and a couple Yellowfins.
Back to charter fishing over the weekend and enjoyed some perfect days on the water, slight chop and a pretty good bite through out the day 5 Yellowfins and a couple White marlins. Theres been some new fish showing up Wahoos and some Dolphins. I hope that things continue to pick up as this has been a great summer for fishing already, sure a few low spots but overall pretty darn good. Back at it in the am.

07/26/2011 Picking at the Yellowfins

The bites are there on the inshore lumps with the Yellowfin Tuna, Capt. John has been putting meat on the deck for our charters. Most bites have been in single’s. A temperature break would be a welcome sign right about now.

Capt. John Reports:

That’s Right stayed inshore again today, spent some time trolling amongest the chunkers, who have us trollers all messed up! We managed to catch 6 nice fish and let go a few smaller one’s. The water temps seem to be just about the same everywhere we go just a little change in the water colors. All our bites today except two came on the down rod with a spoon. We also had a few small dolphins to add to the mix.  The guys offshore seemed to struggle today, just a few Marlin bite’s is all i heard about. We are back at in the am till then…..

That’s Right Tuna Fishing, Yellowfins, Bluefins and Mahi

Another great day Inshore, pretty good sea condition today blew up a little mid morning for about an hour then laid back down. That’s Right had some great kids on board today which did a great job on the rods. They caught some Bluefin and came home with a nice over 54″ about a 90lb fish. Ate a bridge rod with a ballyhoo and the bursar sea witch. Nice fish in the box so that was done.

We headed off to little different grounds and manged some Dolphins and missed a White Marlin. The young ladies of the group manged to capture a couple Yellowfins to add to the box. We let a few go and enjoyed a great day on the water. Till tomorrrow….. Seems the bite is getting a little bit more consistent once again.

Ocean City Maryland Back Bay Fishing is Awesome

Capt. Jason Reports:

Striped bass aka Rockfishing has been very good with many throwbacks and a few keepers mixed in on the tide. Most of these fish have been taken on live bait but some are taking lures. Light tackle makes for a lot of fun tangling with these beauties.

Bottom fishing for summer flounder is getting better with some real nice fish being taken home. Throwbacks dominate the catch right now but those that can be taken home are nice quality fish. The bluefish continue to provide some screaming drags on the light set ups. The blues have been in the 20 inch range. Triggers, Taug, spot and croakers have become more and more common as the weather continues to warm.

Tuna Fishing That’s Right 07/18/2011

Following an uneventful tuna tournament that saw 65 boats fishing in a one mile radius make for a tough few days. We were back to charter fishing. Today we found a nice catch had a few throw backs and a handful of keeper Yellowfin tuna, throw in a Bluefin and a few mahi and it turned into a nice day on the water. Weather kept us home on Tuesday but we are back at it on Wednesday.

Yellowfin Bite is Back On 07/11/2011 Released a white

That’s Right is back at it and the yellowfin bite was fast and furious today.
Yet another great day on the water, That’s Right enjoyed a super morning on a pretty good Yellowfin bite. We started to fish at around 6:50am and pretty much finished up by 8am, fast and furious was the bite today. It did slow as more and more boats rode over top of them, once the smoke cleared the single bite’s began. We also caught a small White Marlin as we slide inside to do some checking. Over all a good day on the water.

Yellowfin Tuna bite back on Ocean City Md “That’s Right”

Capt Oughton:
After a one day rest do to the weather, the That’s Right once again headed to the yellowfin tuna grounds off of Ocean City Maryland. The wide open bites once again have been found and hungry yellowfin. Had one cover up and caught 6 then a few doubles and some single bites. Then the BIG bite came thought we had an Eyeball, however after three hours and 35 pounds of drag we found ourselves letting go a 500 pound Bluefin go!!! So we really thought our eyeball quest had ended today but what a fish to release. Absolutely magnificent. Great day on the water back at in the am!!

07/10/2011 Big Bluefin Release

Deja Vu all over again 7/08/2011

Well as the great Yogi Berra so eloquently stated it, that’s what happened. Capt John had the That’s Right steaming back to the same spot that he did well on thursday again on friday. This time the bluefin tuna weighed in at 110lbs (thurs fish 117), the charter again landed some nice yellowfins and friday saw some nice gaffer Mahi Mahi into the mix. The weather got them tied to the dock on saturday, but they were back at it on sunday and a new report will be posted soon on that I’m sure.

Summer Flounder and Back Bay Fishing Ocean City Maryland

Capt. Jason on the Lucky Break reports more keeper fluke showing up mixed in with a lot of throw backs. The ratio of keepers to throw backs is allowing more keepers to be brought home. Jason has been using bucktails with strip baits and live baits in and around the inlet and back bays of Ocean City and Assateuge. Big Bluefish continue to provide drag screaming action on the light tackle. Rockfish continue to produce well with keepers being caught on a regular basis using live bait. A summer treat has been the arrival of the triggerfish a tasty odd looking bugger. Lucky Break continues to find Taug, croakers, spot and kingfish as well.
